The Music Education Center of the Humanities School of Xi'an Jiaotong University was established on October 28th, 2011. There are 8 music teachers in the center, including 1 professor, 4 associate professors, 2 lecturers and 1 teaching assistant. All teachers possess master's degree, with 3 acquired doctor's degree. The key research fields of the center include university general music education, Chinese national and folk music research, music informatics research, music psychology research, music aesthetics research, vocal music, wind music training, etc.
1.Overall objectives:
"Building high-quality music courses and helping the cultivation of artistic quality of science and engineering talents" is guided by Qian Xuesen's concept of "metasynthetic wisdom " Through the in-depth excavation of the general music curriculum itself and the extensive connection between interdisciplinary subjects, Music Education Center constructs a humanistic music education curriculum system with "four in one" of curriculum education, music practice, textbook extension and subject research, so as to stimulate the image thinking, emotional thinking and critical thinking of science and engineering students, so as to promote and realize the cultivation of innovative talents in science and engineering.
2. Education Management
The Music Education Center is affiliated to the School of Humanities and Social Science under the direct leadership of the School and the Teaching Affairs Office.
3. Curriculum Development
The Music Education Center has attracted a group of young and energetic teachers for music teaching and research. It provides music courses for undergraduate students on music foundation, appreciation and practice, and selective courses on music for postgraduates. Each year, about 2500 to 3000 students would take music courses offered by the Music Education Center, and these courses are generally welcomed and praised by students. The two online courses of music appreciation (national first-class undergraduate course) and Symphony Music Appreciation (wisdom tree, love course and school online) share a wide range of application modes, good application effects and great social impact among ordinary universities and social learners. The significance and value of the demonstration, guidance and applicability of the course have been recognized by the national elective schools. The course video has been included on platforms such as the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the people's daily and the people's daily.
4. Facilities and Equipment
At present, the Music Education Center has built a teaching, research and practice base integrating teaching, performance, audio-visual, dancing, keyboard playing, chorus, guqin and other forms. In addition to offering general music courses (for Qian Xuesen class, special class for gifted young talents, undergraduate students, art and design major students and postgraduate students), it also provides a perfect platform for holding small concerts for students, art exchanges between teachers and students, art club practice and other activities.
5. The Construction of Campus Culture
In addition to carrying out daily teaching activities, the Music Education Center also actively participates in art education activities in together with the national education base for all-around development for college students, the Student Affairs Office, the Youth League Committee, the labor union of the university and the colleges. It has played a significant role in promoting the construction of campus culture and improving artistic environment. Teachers of the Music Education Center also provide artistic guidance for the Chinese orchestra and choir of our university.
In 2000, the Music Education Center was awarded by the Ministry of education of China as a national advanced unit of “Art Education in School”. In June 2013, as the representative of the public art education (music direction) of our university, the Music Education Center was evaluated by the experts’group of the Department of Education of Shaanxi Province and received high praise. In July 2014, the “Music Appreciation” teaching group was awarded the Shaanxi Excellent Teaching Team.
6. Achievements in recent years
(1) Qian Xuesen's class chuangxingang "flash" activity was reported by Xinhuanet and renmin.com, June 2019;
(2) "Senyin" concert of Qian Xuesen class was successfully held, June 2019;
(3) Qian Xuesen's music class reported to Vice Premier sun Chunlan, October 2019;
(4) The music teacher served as the director, rehearsal and performance of the staff singing competition celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China, October 2019;
(5) Music Education Center practice class report concert held successfully, December 2019;
(6) West migration musical successfully staged, December 2019;
(7) "Symphonic music appreciation" course has met four times nationwide. The course is reported by Shaanxi Branch of Xinhuanet. It is reprinted on the main network of Xinhuanet and the central broadcasting network, September 12, 2019;
(8) "Music appreciation" and "symphonic music appreciation" were successively included by the "learning power" of the Central Propaganda Department and the "people's Daily", December 2019-march 2020;
(9) Music appreciation MOOC ranks first in the number of students of similar courses in Colleges and universities in China;
(10) Music teachers undertake the directing, directing and performing work of our school's chorus performance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, October 2018;
(11) 2018 Xi'an drum music into the campus series of activities - Xi'an Jiaotong University special concert "was successfully held;
(12) Piano noon salon art performance held in the course of piano performing art practice, June 2019;
(13) The music teacher is responsible for directing and directing the staff singing competition of the 70th anniversary of the founding of new China, the "magnificent 70 years, singing the new era", September 2019;
(14) The music teacher is responsible for directing and directing the teachers and students' chorus performance of the "Long March suite" Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, June 2021;
(15) By may 2022, music appreciation MOOC has been selected into the list of "top 100 mixed high-quality courses of smart tree network" for five consecutive times.
