Program: M.A. in Chinese Cultural Studies

1. Objectives

This program is designed to help international students from around the world to learn about Chinese culture and society. Enrolled students will develop an adequate understanding of and strong research ability about China today, which will empower them to work in China related positions of cultural exchanges, diplomacy, international trade, management in corporations, and education.

Chinese cultural studies.

3. Length of study

Study duration lasts for 2 years.

4. Credits

To earn a master’s degree, at least 50 credits are required: 10 credits for compulsory courses, 10 for elective courses, and 30 for lectures, social practice and thesis.

Social practice includes social investigation, volunteering services, etc.

6. Graduation Thesis

Students are prepared with the basic scientific methods to search for academic literature, collect data, and handle the data; They should demonstrate the ability to complete a master’s degree thesis.

Requirements for the thesis:

1)      The thesis should be on the form of an analytical report with case studies (including a literature review).

2)      The thesis must be of practical value in the clinical practice.

3)      The thesis should demonstrate the author’s mastery of basic methods and skills of clinical scientific research.

Course Description:  

This course belongs to Master's degree courses. Based on HSK (HSK6), through Chinese listening, speaking and writing training, students will have a solid foundation in Chinese language, gaining professional theory and knowledge of Chinese history and culture, and has a high oral Chinese expression and written communication skills.

Course Description:

This course is designed for foreign students enrolled in the Masters of Chinese Cultural Studies to learn about China in a global perspective. Through a 10-topic structure, this course will introduce the students to international viewpoints about China today, and in doing so it will help the students to establish and enhance their capacities to understand, analyze, and do research of China. The course is to be taught by a team of nine sociologists, who have gained rich overseas experiences as students, teachers, and researchers.

Course Description:

This course is offered to international students at the School of Humanities. The aim of this course is to introduce the development of traditional China to the students in chronological order. The course will provide an integrated overview of Chinese history from the prehistoric period to the end of the last monarchic dynasty. The students will learn the origin, early development, cultural evolution, as well as major historical events of the Chinese civilization. This course will also teach the students about the research methods of Chinese history. This course is taught in the form of lectures. A final report is required for the credit. The students are encouraged to write about major Chinese events and their influence.
